Haye  started as an amateur boxer in 1999 and turned pro in 2002.  He began in the cruiserweight  class moving to the heavyweight class  in 2008. His overall professional boxing record is 22 wins (21 knockouts) and 1 defeat.  Haye has an upcoming heavyweight title match against Nicolai Valuev in November of 2009.
When he moved up to heavyweight, Haye said he would retire on the year of his 31^st birthday saying he would then have 3 years of heavyweight domination.
