Eddie Murphy began as a stand-up comic and moved on to an acting career.  He was a regular on Saturday Night Live creating his characters of a grown-up version of Buckwheat, Mr. Robinson, a take-off of Mr. Rogers and Gumpy which produced one of SNL’s catchphrases, “I’m Gumpy, dammit!”.  His first film role was as “Reggie Hammond” in 48 Hrs. followed by Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, Beverly Hills Cop II and III, Another 48 Hrs., two Nutty Professor films, and Dreamgirls.  Murphy has done the voice of “Donkey” in the smash hit animated Shrek films.
Eddie Murphy has received several Golden Globe nominations for his roles in Beverly Hills Cop, Beverly Hills Cop II and III, Trading Places and The Nutty Professor.  He won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of “James ‘Thunder’ Early in Dreamgirls and an Academy Award nomination for the same role. Watch for him to appear in Shrek Forever After to be released in May of 2010.
