Soulja Boy’s smash hit Crank That (Soulja Boy) was self-published on the Internet.  It became a #1 hit in the U.S.  In March, 2007 he recorded his hit song and released his first independent album Unsigned & Still Major:  Da Album Before da Album. Crank That appeared on the HBO series Entourage which caused it to rise to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters.  Soulja Boy’s major label debut was the album Souljaboytellem.com.
Although his music has been banned from some school dances due to sexual, violent content, Soulja Boy maintain that his goal is to make “upbeat, party-themed music that avoids the negative, violent image that he sees in most hip-hop”.
